The ports of Limón and Moín are located along the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, approximately 170 km (105 miles) from the capital city of San José. Limón is itself the provincial capital of its namesake province and the only city of importance on Costa Rica’s eastern seaboard; Moín is an industrial area located a few kilometers west of Limón.
Currently, both terminals are run and managed by JAPDEVA, an autonomous government entity of public nature. The Project not only involves a concession of the infrastructure and current port services but also a radical change in the management model from a solely public formula through JAPDEVA to private management through a World class operator. Project Needs: The project involve private concessions and the most relevant investments are summarized as follows: Moin (2009-2012):
1. Building 350mts of pier (US$37m)
2. New equipment for piers, 4 mobile cranes (US$24m)
3. Building the new oil port (US$50m, estimated) Moín (2009-2016):
1. Equipment - 4 containers cranes (US$154m) to be installed in 900 meter long platform (pier)
2. Civil works - break water 2km, pier depth 15-18mts, back up area, 40ha (US$447m) Moín (Phase III, 2016-2024)
1. Equipment - 2 cranes (US$97m)
2. Second Pier (600mts long), pier depth 15-18mts, port zone 24ha (US$114m) In Limón (2009-2016):
1. It continues to operate as cargo port until 2016
2. Equipment of the port with 2 mobile cranes (US$13m)

And if I am not mistaken, the objective of the Costa Rica City Port of Limon Project is to revitalize the city of Limon in line with the Government's Regional Development Strategy, and prepare for the modernization of the port of Limon. The project comprises four main components. The first component will invest in the urban upgrade, cultural heritage protection and revitalization and natural conservation of Limon. The second component will support the generation of new sources of employment and income, particularly among the young. The third component will provide technical assistance for the Municipality of Limon to improve its capacity to deliver and manage quality services and goods while empowering it to take an active role in the city's development. And finally, the fourth component will support improvement of transport access to the Limon and Moin port terminals. That is necessary and important, to my mind. I would like to help."
