Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger (Invited)

"Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Austrian-born immigrant, former Mr. Universe bodybuilder and movie star known around the world, gratefully serves the people of California as the state’s 38th governor. He is serving his second term after being first elected in California’s historic 2003 recall election. In his first term, Governor Schwarzenegger brought California back from the brink of bankruptcy, reinvigorated the economy, and created a better environment for business.

In his second term he made California a world leader on renewable energy and combating climate change with the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, and became the first governor in decades to invest in rebuilding California’s critical infrastructure with his Strategic Growth Plan. Governor Schwarzenegger has also dedicated himself to promoting physical education and after-school programs, as well as committing his time, energy and personal finances to charitable organizations around the world.

Governor Schwarzenegger and his wife Maria Shriver have four children - Katherine, Christina, Patrick and Christopher."

 

Director General of the Federal Electricity Comission Alfredo Elías Ayub

Since 1999, Alfredo Elías Ayub has served as Director General of the Federal Electricity Comission. Prior to that he was Director General of Airports and Auxiliary Services (ASA) where he was given the mandate of preparing it for privatization and substantially improving the service provided. He worked for nine years at the Secretariat of Energy, Mines and Parastate Industry, as Coordinator of the Secretary's Advisors, the Under-Secretariat of Mines and Basic Industry and the Energy Under-Secretariat. His main projects included inviting the main participants in the sector to establish a long-term investment program in both PEMEX and CFE and achieving greater consensus as regards planning in the energy sector. At the state level, he has experience as Executive Coordinator of Urban Development of the Secretariat of Public Works in the State of Mexico. He has also promoted social development activities as Director of the National Fund for Social Activities. Together with his public duties, he has also run a family real estate business, in which he has developed the following complexes: Residencial Fundición, Residencial del Bosque, Edificio Corporativo Coca Cola, Parque Industrial Querétaro and Parque Industrial Tecnológico de Guadalajara. Among his academic activities, he has been Director of the School of Engineering at the Anáhuac University, Member of the Board of Alumni of Harvard University Business School, Chairman of the Board of Development of the Anáhuac University and the Mexico Foundation in Harvard. He studied Civil Engineering at the Anáhuac University, where he graduated with honorable mention. He obtained an MA in Administration from the Harvard University Business School where he was awarded a distinction for his academic performance. A native of Mexico City, he was born on January 13 1950, and re-appointed to this post by President Felipe Calderón. 


CEO of Amtrak Joe Boardman

Joseph H. Boardman was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer by Amtrak’s Board of Directors, effective November 26, 2008. Amtrak operates approximately 300 passenger trains per day, serving more than 500 stations in 46 states over a 21,000-mile system. In FY08, Amtr ak carried 28.7 million passengers, an all-time record.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Boardman was a member of the Amtrak board of directors and had served as the U.S. Federal Railroad (FRA) Administrator, part of the U.S. Department of Transportation, since April 28, 2005. As Administrator, Mr. Boardman was responsible for overseeing all aspects of operations for the organization. This includes managing comprehensive safety programs and regulatory initiatives; enforcement of FRA safety regulations; development and implementation of national freight and passenger rail policy; and oversight of diverse research and development activities in support of improved railroad safety.

Prior to joining the FRA, Mr. Boardman served as the Commissioner of the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) beginning July 1997 and led a major transformation effort that has better enabled the agency to respond to the challenges associated with an ever-expanding global marketplace. He has served in the transportation industry for over thirty years with experience in city, county, state and federal government. In addition, he owned his own transportation management company. He is a former chairman of both the Executive Committee of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ (AASHTO) Standing Committee on Rail Transportation (SCORT).

Mr. Boardman is a native of New York State, and is the second of eight children born and raised on a dairy farm in Oneida County. In 1966, he volunteered for military service in the United States Air Force, serving in Vietnam in 1968-1969. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Economics from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., and a Master of Science Degree in Management Science from the State University of New York at Binghamton. He presently resides with his wife Joanne in Washington, D.C.
 
 
 

NY Times Columnist and Author Thomas Friedman

Thomas L. Friedman won the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for commentary, his third Pulitzer for The New York Times. He became the paper's foreign-affairs columnist in 1995. Previously, he served as chief economic correspondent in the Washington bureau and before that he was the chief White House correspondent.

Friedman joined The Times in 1981 and was appointed Beirut bureau chief in 1982. In 1984 he was transferred from Beirut to Jerusalem, where he served as Israel bureau chief until 1988. Mr. Friedman was awarded the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for international reporting (from Lebanon) and the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for international reporting (from Israel).

His book, From Beirut to Jerusalem (1989), won the National Book Award for non-fiction in 1989 and The Lexus and the Olive Tree (2000) won the 2000 Overseas Press Club award for best nonfiction book on foreign policy and has been published in 27 languages. His last book, Longitudes and Attitudes: Exploring the World After September 11(2002), consists of columns Friedman published about September 11 as well as a diary of his private experiences and reflections during his reporting on the post-September world.

Born in Minneapolis, Friedman received a B.A. in Mediterranean studies from Brandeis University in 1975. In 1978 he received a Master of Philosophy degree in Modern Middle East studies from Oxford.
 


President and CEO of Alpha Corporation Jeffrey Lindsey

Mr. Lindsey, a professional engineer, is President and CEO of Alpha Corporation. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland with an MBA and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Mr. Lindsey has over 36 years experience in program management, project controls and risk management for government agencies, institutions, and private enterprises. He has managed transportation and heavy infrastructure projects world-wide emphasizing effective control of schedule, costs and risks. Mr. Lindsey has diverse experience working with public and private entities in the development, financing, delivery, and operations of mega projects including Concessionaire and Public-Private Partnership projects such as the I-495/95/395 HOT Lanes and Route 28 Corridor Improvements projects in Northern Virginia; I-595 Express Corridor Improvements Project in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; the APM Marine Container Terminal project in Portsmouth, Virginia; and, the expansion and modernization of the El Dorado International Airport in Bogota, Colombia. His extensive experience in managing risks and resolving disputes has significantly contributed to the successful completion of projects on behalf of Alpha Corporation’s clients.
 

President and CEO of Infrastructure Ontario David Livingston

As President and Chief Executive Officer of Infrastructure Ontario, David Livingston oversees the crown corporation responsible for executing large-scale public infrastructure projects for the Government of Ontario. Mr. Livingston has 30 years of financial industry experience, where he ultimately rose to Executive Vice President Corporate Development at TD Bank Financial Group. At Infrastructure Ontario he has created a team of private and public experts that use innovative tools to deliver complex projects on time and on budget.

Mr. Livingston obtained his B.Sc. from the University of Western Ontario in 1973 and his MBA from Queen’s University in 1976. He is a director of Ovarian Cancer Canada and The Children’s Aid Society of Toronto. He is also a member of the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto Real Estate Committee and the Children’s Aid Foundation Scholarship Award Committee. He and his wife have two grown children.

 

President and CEO of Talgo North America Antonio Perez

Mr. Antonio Pérez Hurtado, a native of Spain, is President and CEO of Talgo, Inc. based in Seattle, Washington.

He began his tenure with Patentes Talgo, S.A. in 1995 where he was responsible for the firm's local and international project management initiatives. In 1999, Mr. Perez was promoted to head of the International Sales Department. In 2001, he came to the U.S. to oversee the operations of Talgo, LRC.

In 2003, Mr. Pérez was appointed Managing Director of Talgo America, the U.S. holding company for Talgo, Inc., Talgo LRC and Talgo TTA, where he restructured and streamlined U.S. operations, and expanded intercity passenger rail business.

Mr. Pérez holds a Masters in Economics and Business Administration from the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de la Empresa (IESE) in Barcelona.
 

Director, North American Business Development Cintra USA Carlos Ugarte

Carlos Ugarte has 25 years of multinational experience in project finance, business development, and management.  As Director of North America Business Development for Cintra US since 2006, Mr. Ugarte is responsible for coordinating resources to effectively prepare and submit bids for Cintra in this region.  Some of the most notable bids led by Mr. Ugarte are the North Tarrant Express, I-635/LBJ Express, and SH-121 in Texas. 

In the eight (8) years prior, Mr. Ugarte served as CFO for Cintra Chile.  He was instrumental in structuring the initial project finance of Cintra´s concessions in Chile, with an equity investment valuated at € 348 million by the end of 2009.  Mr. Ugarte has also directed complex project financing transactions, some of which are cornerstone solutions for the Project Finance Industry worldwide.  Among these is the Autopista del Maipo Project Finance (USD 421 Million) which received two international awards (2004 Latin American Refinancing Deal, Project Finance Magazine, and 2004 Best Project Finance Deal, Latin Finance Magazine).

Mr. Ugarte holds a Masters in Business Administration (major: International Business), a Masters of Science and Business Administration (major: Finance), both from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and a degree in Economics and Business from Universidad de Chile. 
 

 

CEO of Brightsource Energy John Woolard 

John Woolard is President and CEO of BrightSource Energy. In this role, John brings more than two decades of experience in the energy technology sector as an executive, entrepreneur and investor.

Prior to joining BrightSource Energy, John co-founded Silicon Energy, one of the first successful clean tech companies, and was President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board from 1997 to 2003. John joined the executive team at Itron, Inc. in 2003 following its acquisition of Silicon Energy, and was Vice President of Software Solutions and subsequently the Vice President of Strategy and Business Development. John previously held positions with VantagePoint Venture Partner’s CleanTech Group, Lawrence Berkeley National Labs, and Pacific Gas & Electric Company. John is a Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute and has served on the Board of the California Clean Energy Fund and the Strategic Advisory Board for Xcel Energy, and currently serves on the Tuolumne River Preservation Trust, the Oakland Zoo and the Lester Center Advisory Board-Haas School of Business, U.C. Berkeley.

John holds an MBA from the Haas School of Business at U.C. Berkeley, a Masters in Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia, and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia. John is a lifetime member of the Sierra Club.
