LALF7 Project Awards
7th Latin American Leadership Forum - Westin Galleria Hotel - Houston, TX - April 27-29, 2009

“World-Class Infrastructure In The Americas - The Opportunity Is Now!”

Project of the Year awards recognize the projects - and the leaders behind the projects - that will serve as models for vastly increased infrastructure investment in the region.

CAF

New Energy Project of the Year (Sponsored by CAF): The project is being awarded by Platinum Sponsor CAF (Andean Development Corporation) to that infrastructure project which is most innovative in the generation, transmission or distribution of electricity.  The award will go to the project that is replicable and scaleable, and covers the range of energy technologies including biofuels, energy efficiency, smart grid application, wind energy and solar energy.

The Winner:  Galectra Wind Farm, Mexico

Strategic:  The Project that Serves as a Model - either in terms of concept, ambition, finance or engineering - for transforming the competitiveness of the region.

The Winner:  Ruta del Sol, Colombia

Equity / Job Creation:  Infrastructure is an extraordinary job creator, and the winning project will be that project designed to create the most direct and indirect jobs - as well as the greatest opportunities for local businesses over the next 3-5 years.  The project will be visionary in terms of the job creation potential.

The Winner:  Rehabilitation of the National Railway System & Logistics Centers, Costa Rica

Engineering:  The project that best shows the glory of Latin American engineering, and that best creates a project that will provide 20-30 years of competitiveness  to its country or region.  The winning project, and its sponsors, will have engineered a project that is a model for the next generation.

The Winner:  Chicontepec Oil Fields, Mexico

Finance:  The project that leads the way in terms of sustainable financing going forward, particularly in light of the severity and longevity of the financial crisis.  The price will be awarded to the project that has been able to best channel multi-source funding into its structure, creating a replicable model for the region.

The Winner:  Expansion of Electric Generation Systems, Guatemala

Water / Wastewater:  The project that promises a new level of leadership in terms of the design and / or financing of water/wastewater projects in Latin America.  The region is currently in a financing crisis for the sector.  The winning project, and its sponsors, will have designed a project that will guide the way forward.

The Winner:  Atotonilco Wastewater Treatment Center, Mexico
