Itaipu Binational is a world leader in clean and renewable energy having produced more than 2.4 billion MWh since it started operating, in 1984. With 20 generating unities and 14.000 MW of installed power, Itaipu provides around 17% of the energy consumed in Brazil and 76% of the energy consumed in Paraguay.

In 2016, Itaipu has produced a total of 103.098.366 MWh (103 million MWh), a new world record in annual production. Its previous record was reached in 2013, with 98.630.035 MWh. The third best mark was in 2012, when it generated 98.287.128 MWh.
